“It’s all make believe, isn’t it?”
― Marilyn Monroe
I have yet another cat post for you this week, the blue-eyed fluffy girl featured here is, Norma Jeane, the resident kitty at a coffee shop I visited recently with our sweet daughter-in-law, Lisa. The last time I saw Lisa was 7 years ago at Johannesburg International Airport, when she, Stephen and the children emigrated to Melbourne, Australia. Skype is great but can’t compare to seeing a loved one in the flesh, it was wonderful to spend a few days with Lisa, catching up on lost time and just chilling out.
As soon as I spied Norma Jeane sleeping on one of the tables I couldn’t resist photographing her.
A beautiful and most accommodating model.
I eventually stopped so that we could have a cuppa and share a slice of carrot cake on the outside patio, the decor was, um … interesting. Lisa was good enough to pose for a few photographs as well, doesn’t she have the kindest eyes and the most beautiful skin? You would never say that her eldest child is over 21 years of age, must be her Greek genes methinks.
I was so engrossed with taking this image of Norma Jeane, I didn’t notice Lisa taking a sneaky shot of me with her camera!
PET PHOTOGRAPHY TIP: I propped the cream coloured pillow up on the table in order to reflect a little fill light into Norma Jeane’s face to open up the shadow areas, as she had her back to the main light source. Using a genuine photography reflector would have been better but I didn’t have one with me and generally animals are frightened of them.
The way Norma Jeane poses in the above images reminds me so much of the Chat Noir poster below.
Tournée du Chat Noir by Théophile-Alexandre Steinlen
Time to have a little face wash and get ready for a close up.
How about those freckles on her nose and ears? Really love this image.
And this one.
Until next time

There is something about cats in shops, even on the streets. They are SO at home, settled. Willing to accommodate you, but very much on their terms…

You hit the nail right on the head! Very much on their terms, I love to capture animals doing their own thing, being themselves.
