Pet Photography Poses – Ruby Tuesday

She would never say where she came from
Yesterday don’t matter if it’s gone
While the sun is bright
Or in the darkest night
No one knows, she comes and goes

Goodbye Ruby Tuesday
Who could hang a name on you?
When you change with every new day
Still I’m gonna miss you

– Rolling Stones

I learned a very valuable lesson while trying to capture some images of our very own Ruby Tuesday – don’t force and don’t become impatient because a stressed model will result in fake, uncomfortable looking poses.

Unlike Paddington, who adores being in the limelight and showing off in front of the lens, Ruby is very camera shy and I just could not get her to pose the way I wanted her to.  It took a while to for me to realise that I needed to stop trying to force her to do things and to just let her be.   As soon as the pressure was off she relaxed and the outcome was more natural looking poses that reflect her quiet, yet quirky personality.

I love the dramatic lighting in this image

    1. We adopted her when she was about 18 months old and her name was originally Dobie but we didn’t think it suited her at all so we changed it to Ruby Tuesday, Ruby for short, Rubino when we’re in an Italian mood…

  1. Wonderful shots of your shy pup. The second one reminds me of photos I’ve take of my Nina, who is usually a live wire, but every once in a while she pauses at my feet and I’m able to get a nice shot of her.
