“…I recall that day on the beach – the sand so brilliant, the clouds so massive, and the wind punishing your hair…”
― John Geddes, A Familiar Rain
The wind almost blew me off my feet, I was vaguely concerned that all the sand blowing about was getting into my one and only prime lens, Canon EF 50mm f/1.4 but I couldn’t help but be distracted and fascinated by the unadulterated joy exhibited by the two dogs in front of my lens.

If you have been following my blog for some time then you will be no stranger to the mischievous Pixel who starred in this blog post here.
This session highlights Pixel and his friend Jack having fun on the beach.
Also featured are Pixel’s humans, Kath and Cornel and as you can see by the following images there is no shortage of love between the three of them.
Jack is fast as lightning…
Pixel trying to steal Jack’s cuttlefish treasure…
Pixel is pretty fast too, he can corner on two legs…
Vertically challenged dogs are certainly at a height disadvantage when it comes to tug-of-war with a tennis ball…
This is one of my favourite images, Cornel gently brushing the hair away from Kath’s face and Pixel looking on. Can you see the love?
PHOTOGRAPHY TIPS FOR FREEZING ACTION:- Set your camera to “continuous shooting” so that when you hold down the shutter button fully, it will fire off shots in rapid succession. The speed will vary depending on your camera’s capabilities, how fast your SD card is and whether you are shooting in JPEG or RAW.
- Change your AF mode to AI Servo (on a Canon) and AFC (on a Nikon) this will ensure that your camera will be able to maintain continuous focus on the moving subject.
- In order to freeze side-to-side or up-and-down motion you will need a shutter speed of at least 1/500, 1/1000 or higher, for movement towards the camera start shooting at 1/250 or higher
